If you have just been diagnosed with cancer, or are a family member or caregiver for someone with cancer, our free support services are here for you from the first day.

Befrienders

Befrienders are trained staff and volunteers who listen and support both those who have been diagnosed and caregivers through challenging times.

We offer therapies that treat the symptoms of cancer and offer stress relief and comfort to those living with a diagnoses as well as their caregivers.

Support Groups

Support groups offer a place where we can laugh, cry, celebrate, and use humor to find relief in the universality of our experiences.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You are welcome to give us a call and we’ll help you get started, through conversations and attentive listening in a supportive environment. You might find it helpful to explore calming sessions for relaxation, or join one of our programs for gentle stretching. We are here to listen to your needs and help you find the resources that are the best fit for you at any stage in your experience.

  • Everything we provide at Cancer Connection is offered free of charge to those affected by cancer. You won’t be charged for any programs or services you use and we do not bill any insurance companies.

  • Yes. We understand that getting through cancer treatment or supporting a loved one through cancer is challenging and you may not have time or energy to do one more thing. Many people tell us they pushed through all their treatments and returned to work as soon as they could–and only then realized how much it has all affected them. Sometimes you can’t feel the emotions or figure out that you need to talk with others who share your experiences until you are ready. We are still here for you when that time comes!

  • Yes, give us a call and let us know you would find that helpful. We can sometimes match people up for peer support within our community. If we don’t know someone in a similar situation, we can tell you about other resources for peer support.

  • Absolutely! If you can’t call our center during our usual Befriending hours, please call our main number (413) 586-1642. Leave a message if you miss us and we will arrange a time that does work for you!
